What is C-PACE?

C-PACE stands for Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy and is a financing mechanism that can be implemented by state, county, or other local municipal authorities. According to the US Department of Energy, this financing tool can provide financing for energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades or new construction project implementation. The loan is bound to the property and paid back via a special line item on the property tax bill, which ties the repayment obligation to the property itself, rather than the property owner and may be transferred with the property in the event of a sale.

Property owners arrange financing with approved capital partners for a term of up to 20 years. Financing can cover up to 100% of the cost of renewable and energy efficiency projects.

What is Co-PACE?

Co-PACE is Colorado’s iteration of the PACE program and is managed by the Colorado New Energy Improvement District (NEID). There are currently nineteen participating counties with seven more in discussion (get the complete list here).
