Ally Welcomes Shane Mathis and John Mahoney

Ally Welcomes Shane Mathis and John Mahoney to the Executive Team

Ally Energy Solutions and its subsidiary, Ally Renewable Natural Gas, are pleased to announce the addition of energy industry veterans and Ally board members Shane Mathis and John Mahoney to their executive teams. Shane Mathis is now the CEO of Ally RNG and Chairman and CSO of Ally Energy, while John Mahoney is a newly appointed Ally Director.

The positioning of Mathis and Mahoney in such critical leadership roles is part of Ally’s next-phase, two-pronged growth initiative, which includes the further development of Ally RNG as a clean energy partner for farmers throughout the United States and a greater emphasis on the enterprise view of energy management – a management philosophy that accounts for a facility’s entire energy system, including competitive supply, demand-side efficiency, carbon footprint, capital structure, and data-driven insights.

Shane Mathis and John Mahoney

Shane Mathis – Creating New Profit Streams for Farmers through Renewable Natural Gas and Sustainable Waste Management

In his roles as CEO of Ally Renewable Natural Gas and Chief Strategic Officer of Ally Energy Solutions, Shane combines his desire to establish new revenue streams for farm operators with his talent for strategic finance and energy commodity risk management. Harvesting and marketing clean, renewable energy from agricultural waste provides a unique opportunity to leverage his personal and professional experience.

Growing up on a dairy farm in southwest Missouri, Shane has firsthand knowledge of modern farmers’ challenges and opportunities. After a post-college stint in the grain and soy options pit at the Chicago Board of Trade, he began his career in the energy industry, moving to Topeka, Kansas, to work for Westar Energy, where he and his team built the company’s electricity, natural gas, and coal trading and marketing operations into the one of the most successful in the US. As president of Westar’s construction subsidiary, Shane headed the team that built a 600 MW combined cycle power plant in Joplin, Missouri, referred to as “Stateline.”

In 2002, Shane joined brokerage and consulting firm RMI, where he was the leading architect behind the creation of KnowRisk™, a commodity, ingredient, and treasury risk management service for large food and beverage corporations, and more than one-million crop acres, feedlots, dairies, utilities, and various industries across the country.

Shane combines long-term energy industry experience with commercial farming and commodities risk management to develop a “whole-system” view of profitable and sustainable strategic energy management.

John Mahoney – Decades of Leadership Experience on the Forefront of Energy Management

As a business builder, board member, and mentor, energy industry veteran John Mahoney is a key contributor to Ally’s business strategy and scale objectives.

As the former COO of Chevron Energy Solutions, CEO of Opterra Energy, and, most recently, Engie Services North America CEO, John has been a true pioneer in the public sector ESCO business. He brings Ally a depth and breadth of knowledge that comes from a distinguished career on the front lines of a transition away from fossil fuels towards renewable power and energy efficiency. This experience is coupled with decades of insights gained as a leader in developing new efficiency products and funding solutions that have become increasingly data-driven and intelligent as technology evolves.

As a driving force behind Engie’s revolutionary $5 billion energy service platform, John was responsible for developing the company into a service provider capable of delivering integrated energy solutions across multiple customer sets. That development involved managing corporate acquisitions and integrations, enterprise systems development and management, and full P&L responsibility for the platform.
